FTE: 1.0 (35 hours per week)

The Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management seeks to appoint a SME Net Zero Engagement Specialist as part of the team for a project funded through the Glasgow City Region’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The GCR-EXTEND PLUS project will focus on undertaking carbon baseline assessments of SMEs within the Glasgow City Region (GCR). The GCR consists of the councils of Glasgow City, East & West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, and South Lanarkshire. The carbon baseline will serve as a foundation for companies to understand their current carbon footprint, identify opportunities to make immediate and medium-term carbon reductions, and provide guidance on their pathway to Net Zero.

The candidate will form part of a team who will be engaging and supporting Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) on a daily basis. A typical SME engagement will involve making initial contact, data collection and analysis, site visit, and report generation. The carbon assessment will follow a template which has been developed, training and guidance will be provided. Each team member will be assigned a number of companies and will take ownership of delivering the assessments and reports. The candidate will also work closely with the Managing Authorities to ensure a joined-up approach to company engagement and longer-term support. An opportunity also exists to help organise engagement events to raise the profile and opportunities of net zero to companies.

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Are passionate about helping SMEs take on the Net Zero challenge.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with partners, and
  • Can deliver against targets set in the project plan to ensure the best possible impact on SMEs.

To be considered for the role, you will have a good honours degree a (or equivalent professional experience) in appropriate discipline.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with: membership/working towards membership of a relevant Chartered/professional body.
