Job description

This permanent, full-time post is available from 1st September 2024. 

The role

You will contribute to extending the research profile of Anthropology/Sociology at Exeter, particularly in the various areas relevant to Egenis, our world-leading Centre for the Study of Life Sciences. 

The successful candidate should have research interests in anthropology and/or sociology relating to one or more of Egenis’ research strands: Biology and Environment; Health and Biomedical Research; Mind, Body and Culture; and Data, Knowledge and Artificial Intelligence. You will pursue independent, internationally-recognised research in one or more of these areas, with the potential to attract research funding. The ability to consider how your research area will be impacted by developments in artificial intelligence will be an advantage. You will also be able to contribute high-quality teaching to our undergraduate and graduate level programmes in anthropology and/or sociology. 

About you

You will have:

  • A PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in Anthropology or Sociology and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
  • A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
  • An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
  • Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
  • Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
  • Involvement in projects which develop impact
