About us

We are delighted to be recruiting two new Strategic Research Facilitators who will join the Research Coordination Office (RCO) for the Life and Medical Sciences within UCL Research, Innovation and Global Engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of research funding across one of the largest and most prestigious groupings of academics in biomedical, life and population health sciences.

The role of the RCO is to enable UCL researchers, academics and clinicians to develop competitive grant applications, encourage cross-disciplinary research communities and collaborations, increase the success of research funding applications, and help develop and deliver UCL’s research strategy. Based within the RCO the Strategic Research Facilitators contribute to these activities and play an important part in UCL’s continued success in research and innovation.

About the role

The Strategic Research Facilitators work across the four Life and Medical Sciences (LMS) faculties at UCL, and key duties of this role include:

• Ensuring that researchers within LMS are alerted to relevant funding opportunities, across UK Government, international and charity funders.
• Managing UCL’s relationship with external funding agencies and liaising with key contacts across UCL to facilitate these.
• Supporting funding applications from a particular range of LMS Divisions and Institutes;
• Managing internal triage processes to select applications that can be submitted to funders;
• Supporting researchers in preparing for grant funding interviews;
• Working with professional staff across UCL on strategic projects and interdisciplinary grants.
• Providing training and resources for academics applying for funding.

About you

Successful candidates will have a proactive approach to research facilitation with experience of research funding in large research-intensive organisations and knowledge and experience of the current research funding environment, both in the UK and internationally. They will have an excellent understanding of research development in higher education and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and excellent communication skills.
