The Opportunity:

The Senior Biodiversity Manager is responsible for delivering a holistic approach to biodiversity across all of our operations whilst supporting biodiversity work within the University's learning and teaching, research and commercialisation. Biodiversity impacts within our operations include for example impact resulting from our investments, supply chain, five physical campuses, and wider city region. 

Much of this role's impact will be delivered via other University functions and local partnerships, meaning the ability to influence via strong internal and external senior relationships and partnerships will be key to success. The role will include line management responsibilities for a small team. There will also be student and staff placements, external consultancy, and partnership projects with, for example, the City of Edinburgh Council to oversee.

Your Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Degree in biodiversity, ecology or similar subject and/or proven experience in managing biodiversity projects in a leadership role, showcasing track record of successful projects.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to influence change via sustained senior level relationships.
  • Demonstrable ability to formulate, articulate and present compelling business cases for biodiversity projects in order to influence decision makers.
  • Excellent project management skills, including a strong ability to prioritise, set and meet deadlines, manage budgets, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international biodiversity issues, conservation practices, and ecological principles.
  • Positive leader and role model with strong line management experience.
