The Faculty of Education is looking to appoint an Assistant Professor (formerly known as University Lecturer) in Inclusive Education. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding research and teaching supporting the inclusion of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), those struggling with socio-emotional and mental health issues, neurodiversity, or more broadly, with low participation in classroom activities. Within these areas of research, we particularly welcome approaches fostering inclusion and equitable participation of all learners, such as nonverbal communication, dialogic pedagogy or pupil voice. Pedagogical approaches might include the use of assistive or other digital technologies to support inclusion and multimodal classroom interaction.
Applicants are required to demonstrate excellent understanding of the broad methodological issues involved when working with the aforementioned learner groups, including ethical dilemmas and issues of legal compliance. Applicants are also required to have demonstrated expertise with the application of research methods such as mixed or participatory, and to have used these in a culturally and contextually relevant manner. The successful candidate is required to have experience of researching and developing inclusive educational practices, and might demonstrate policy engagement within the UK and/or internationally. Theoretical or disciplinary orientations may include perspectives from psychology, sociocultural theory, social anthropology, sociology, social justice, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, history, philosophy, jurisprudence, or policy studies, among others. The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate degree (Tripos), graduate programmes at Masters and Doctoral levels, PGCE and practitioner professional development routes. They will be able to communicate effectively with educational practitioners and demonstrate understanding of their everyday working contexts.
