About us

The Department has a strong track record in leading regional, national and international collaborations; through CPOM and CSEM the postholder will have the opportunity to work with external partners including the Centre for Research and Improvement at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and national/international consortia in perioperative medicine and sports/exercise medicine. We are seeking an academic at Lecturer level to broadly provide support within the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science and more specifically within the Centre for Perioperative Medicine (CPOM) and Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (CSEM).

About the role

The post holder will deliver and support the statistical aspects of applied health research programmes within CPOM, CSEM and more broadly within the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science. The postholder will also support the maintenance of ongoing studies e.g. the CLoCk study by assisting with/leading funding applications. They will be expected to lead and work collaboratively with cross-faculty colleagues to deliver research outputs. Expertise in analysis of large datasets including (for example) electronic health records, national audit datasets, longitudinal cohorts, Hospital Episode Statistics, primary care datasets or similar is essential. Experience and expertise in advanced statistical approaches, such as growth trajectory modelling, machine learning and/or causal inference techniques such as instrumental variable analysis would be advantageous but not essential. Bioinformatics skills would also be advantageous. Role specifi! c details : • This role is available from May 2024.

About you

We are looking for a post holder with an excellent track record in teaching and research, experience in epidemiology and applied health research. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong track record of high impact peer-reviewed publications, together with the potential to obtain NIHR and Research Council funding. The postholder will be an innovative scientist with strong leadership qualities, excellent team-working skills, teaching experience and a clear commitment to knowledge transfer, so as to contribute with impact to UCL as a world leading university. Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams will constitute an advantage.
