Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,585 to £54,395, with potential progression once in post to £61,198.

The School of Mathematics is committed to significantly expanding its programme in real-world applications of Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to this programme by conducting high-quality research in related areas, and working closely with industry, clinicians, policymakers or other stakeholders outside of academia to achieve a positive impact on important societal or economic challenges. They will initiate and lead activities related to Enterprise, Engagement and Impact of Mathematics to enhance the School’s portfolio of knowledge exchange and impact activities. They will develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate education and will be expected to contribute to the school through management/leadership, as appropriate.

Main duties:

The successful candidate will contribute to a range of enterprise, engagement and impact activities, such as knowledge creation and transfer which may be in partnership with industry, government, public sector organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), NHS, learned societies or professional bodies. They will be developing activities which have an impact on the discipline in terms of supporting and developing a broad range of knowledge-based interactions and secure external funding. They will contribute to teaching and advising individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students, contribute to administration and an inclusive working environment.

Person specification:

Usually a PhD, or equivalent research experience outside academia, relevant to the discipline. The ability to initiate and conduct original research which has a measurable impact in addressing industrial, interdisciplinary or societal challenges, and extensive experience in Enterprise, Engagement and Impact activities.
