This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate interested in strain engineering to join our team. You will be leading a highly innovative project to develop a carbon dioxide utilizing strain for biomanufacturing. This project is funded by EPSRC. The role is an excellent opportunity to deliver impact through translational research and acquire skills in project management.

We are looking for independent researchers who have demonstrated their ability to perform and ideally publish high quality research. You will possess a PhD in biological science or engineering, have excellent skills in biological engineering, and expertise in one or more of the following areas: genome editing, laboratory evolution, and genetic circuits. This post involves collaboration with a wider team of researchers, and accordingly the candidate will have excellent communication and team-working skills.

Our research team

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Kang Lan Tee in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. The research priority of the Tee Research Groups is sustainable biomanufaturing using engineered biological systems (e.g., engineered enzymes, engineered microbial strains). Our team works closely with academic and industrial collaborators to address biomanufacturing challenges.

The department

Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) is ranked amongst the top 5 Chemical Engineering Departments in the UK and is a thriving department within the University's Faculty of Engineering.  CBE comprises 38 academic staff, 58 research staff and technicians, 16 support staff and a student population of over 650 undergraduates, and 250 postgraduates (taught and research).
