As Associate Professor in Energy Harvesting and Energy Systems, you will sit under the Zero Carbon (ZC) Research Theme at the University of Derby. THE ZC Theme includes three research centres: Centre for Manufacturing, Business, Energy; Centre for Transport and Smart Cities; and Centre for Nature Based Solutions. Over 100 academics carry out research within these centres, and in interdisciplinary research teams across the University.

You will work within the Centre for Manufacturing, Business, and Energy (CMBE), but will be expected to liaise across the Zero Carbon Theme and be involved as appropriate in the broader research within the University. Currently the CMBE has 30 academics within it, and it is expected that the successful candidate will assist in developing, expanding, and leading the Centre.

You will be expected to build an academic research cluster around the topic of energy harvesting and energy systems and lead a team of academics on that topic. You and your team will be expected to secure funding, carry out world-leading research, publish, and generate impact in accordance with the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) requirements. In addition to building and sustaining an academic team, you will be expected to contribute to research and teaching within the broader research Themes and the University, and in alignment with University strategy.

By joining us as an Associate Professor, you will have the opportunity undertake a variety of development opportunities. Leadership will be a key development objective and you will have the opportunity to progress to a Professor at the University.

Application Process         

In order to meet the Associate Professor criteria, as evidence of your academic authority, you will need to demonstrate proven achievement against two criteria:

  1. Significant achievement in at least one of either
    • Research or
    • Professional Practice or
    • Teaching & learning

and must also demonstrate

2. High level of achievement in relation to both

    • Professional Standing and
    • Senior leadership.

You will be expected to complete a short application online for the role through the University’s recruitment process and provide the following documentation:

  1. An up to date current curriculum vitae;
  2. A supporting covering letter outlining your suitability to the underlying role requirement, and;
  3. The names of two employment referees (including ideally, the last line manager)

In addition, in order to meet the Associate Professorial criteria, you will need to provide:

iv. A written statement evidencing how you meet the criteria for the award of the title of Associate Professor.

v. Please also include two appropriately qualified referees (of at least Associate Professor status) in relation to the Associate Professorial title.
