We are looking to appoint a Junior Assistant Clinician (Intern) to deliver and have responsibility for equine clinical patient care under the supervision of experienced staff. You will participate and assist in the Hospital’s activities which include medicine, surgery, reproduction and anaesthesia services, undergraduate student teaching and 24/7 operation. The working pattern which includes night shifts (shared with colleagues, aiming for a frequency of 1:4 rising to 1:5). You will also support student training by providing instruction, supervision and feedback, and receive appropriate training as required. This post will require the successful candidate to rotate through all areas of the hospital but will focus principally on supporting the surgery service.

This 1-year fixed-term position offers the early-stage clinical experience required in preparation for further specialist training, through Residencies and Masters formal training programmes. While appointments may be extended for a short fixed-term period where this would be in the mutual interest, in the interests of ensuring that veterinary career development is supported, and to assist with recruitment to the University’s Residency and Masters Programmes, the one year duration will remain the normal term.

The Glasgow Equine Hospital is accredited by the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme as an Equine Veterinary Hospital, which includes assessment in categories such as client services, in-patient services, diagnostic services, team and professional responsibility and ambulatory services. The Veterinary School has recently been rated 7th in the World and 1st in the UK for quality of education and training. Clinical audit is undertaken formally, and staff maintain clinical and research links with leading veterinary authorities worldwide, in order to expand skill sets.
