Lancaster University - Lancaster Environment Centre

Location: Lancaster
Salary: £29,605 to £36,024 pro rata (part time, indefinite with end date contract)
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 15th February 2024
Closes: 28th February 2024
Job Ref: 0073-24

Interview Date: Wednesday 28 February 2024

Background

The Envision Doctoral Training Partnership brings together three universities and three research institutes to provide a new generation of environmental scientists with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to take on the challenges of a changing world.

The environmental sciences are currently underrepresented by people from diverse backgrounds. Additional funding, in the form of the “Diversifying the Talent Pipeline Award”, from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), will enable Envision to work with secondary school pupils to start to address this problem. This will be done through the Envision Outreach programme for Underrepresented Talent (Envision OUT).

The Role

In this exciting and challenging role, the EDIA Innovator will lead the design and implementation of Envision OUT. The EDIA Innovator will work with schools, teachers, other educational professionals, and PhD students, with the aim of accelerating positive change to benefit the environmental science community and those it serves.

Starting as soon as possible, you will research, coordinate, and run events and activities aimed at igniting school children’s excitement and understanding of the natural world through outdoor and indoor environmental science activities. In achieving this you will collaborate with PhD students, schools, and other organisations such as the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

You will work alongside, and be supported by, the Envision management team, but will also be expected to work independently thinking innovatively about ways to improve take up of environmental science subjects, by people from diverse backgrounds who are currently underrepresented.

You should have an excellent understanding of EDIA issues, and a strong interest in secondary level education. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member with a flexible approach and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

For further information about this role please contact Olivia Lawrenson, (Envision Manager) or Sohila Raqib (Envision Training and Placement Officer) envision@lancaster.ac.uk

This project is supported by time limited funding which ends 31st March 2025.

This is a part-time post at 0.6 FTE. Flexible working arrangements can be considered.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
