Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Assistant in the Wireless Power Lab at Imperial College London. The Wireless Power Lab (www.imperial.ac.uk/wireless-power) conducts research into multi-MHz wireless power transfer, with applications to drones, light-weight e-mobility, and medical and consumer. The lab ran IEEE Wireless Power Week 2019 in London (www.wpw2019.org). We use have been extensively working on optimising unidirectional IPT systems consisting on two system nodes. The goal of this work is to expand on the existing knowledge of active-passive IPT systems to create a mesh of active-active transceivers for cooperative power management and delivery.

The post holder will be required to simulate, optimise and design bidirectional inductive power transfer systems working in the Megahertz range with the ultimate goal of creating a reconfigurable transceiver mesh for multi-node power delivery. The post is part of the EPSRC Safe Power Delivery Using a Reconfigurable Mesh of Inductive Transceivers Project:

Duties and responsibilities

  • To plan and carry out research in accordance with the project aims and work-plan
  • To contribute to the timely production of project deliverables
  • To generate and display results and interpret their implications
  • To write progress and project reports and prepare results for publication and dissemination via presentations and seminars
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To present research findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • To attend relevant workshops, project meetings and conferences as necessary
  • To help maintain the laboratory environment
  • To submit publications to refereed journals
  • To develop contacts and research collaborations within the College and the wider community
  • To promote the reputation of the Group, the Department and the College
  • To conduct and plan own scientific work with appropriate supervision.
  • To maintain highly organised and accurate record of experimental Work.
  • To actively participate in the research programme of the Group
  • To publish in high quality journals and to present data at national and international meetings.
  • To participate in Group research meetings and internal seminars.
  • To collaborate with other allied scientists within Imperial College and elsewhere in London and abroad, as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the smooth running of the Group’s laboratories and, facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students within the laboratories.
  • Assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students and research assistants as required.
  • Any other duties as may be deemed reasonable by Head of group as well as Head of Division/Department/Section.

  • Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines
