The Role

Maynooth University seeks an outstanding academic to join our staff as Professor of Economics. The person appointed will have an excellent record in research, scholarship and publication, in teaching and educational innovation, and in academic leadership. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching, research and profile of the university, and to provide ongoing leadership for the discipline.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential

  • An outstanding record of research and scholarship, reflected in an excellent publication profile;
  • The capacity to offer strong academic leadership within the department, including through research mentoring and/or collaborations;
  • An outstanding academic record as a university teacher and an educational innovator;
  • Demonstrated ability to secure national and/or European research funding;
  • Demonstrated success in securing funding (including external funding) for PhD students;
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and grow taught postgraduate programmes;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the internationalisation of research and teaching;
  • The capacity to offer strong academic leadership across the University;
  • Demonstrated management and administrative skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • The ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external colleagues.

Desirable

  • Strong public service ethos;
  • A focus on sustainability in teaching and research;
  • Strong interest in policy-relevant research;
  • A track record of international collaboration.
