The Opportunity:
We seek a post-doctoral research associate (PDRA) with expertise in radar remote sensing of vegetation. The post holder will develop new methods to retrieve information about woody vegetation structure and biomass using satellite radar observations and apply these to better understand the carbon cycle of the tropics.
This ongoing post is part of both the UK National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) Carbon theme and the related SECO project (https://blogs.ed.ac.uk/seco-project/), which combines remote sensing, field work and modelling. As such, this remote sensing-focused post will involve close collaboration with partners making in situ measurements and those who use EO observations for modelling. The work will also contribute to other global initiatives to better understand the terrestrial carbon cycle and its response to global change.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time and flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
