Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in the School of Health Sciences.

Researchers at the University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) are undertaking a project to improve the lives of dementia carers in the UK.  Previous research has shown that intervening early to support carers builds personal resilience and enhances their ability to cope. This programme of work is possible thanks to almost £2 million in funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The research team will build on work carried out in the Netherlands, where a ‘Partner in Balance’ intervention has already been shown to reduce the burden and stress of caring for a family member or friend with dementia. The aim of the blended care initiative is to help dementia carers stay emotionally and physically well – which is crucial for both the carer and the person they support and care for.

You will work with children and young people to co-develop components of the CareCoach programme focussing on their needs and experiences, using experience-based co-design, then support the development of the suggested resources working with digital and other creators across UEA and beyond.

The project is particularly important in relation to the coronavirus pandemic, which has left many people with dementia and their carers more isolated than ever.

You will work closely with the Chief Investigator leading this work and the programme manager.

The post is offered on a full-time or part-time basis at a minimum of 0.8fte on a fixed term basis for 12 months and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child Barred List. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

Further information on our great benefits package, including 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days (pro rata for part-time), can be found on our benefits page.

Closing date: 7 March 2024
