Summary

Are you interested in working for a world top 100 university?  The Section of Medical Education within the School of Medicine and Population Health (SMPH), has expanded its simulation-based teaching programme and is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative academic with experience in simulation-based medical education to the recently created post of University Teacher in simulation-based education.  The post is 0.4 FTE and is fixed term until 4th January 2025 to cover maternity leave.

You should have a primary medical degree, hold full registration with the GMC and have completed Foundation and core training within the NHS.  You should have a proven track record of teaching medical undergraduates, including the use of simulation and have completed a PG Cert in medical education or equivalent qualification.

You will be expected to deliver high quality learning experiences for our students with a particular focus on developing scenario-based learning to enhance our ‘preparation for practice’ provision within the MBChB curriculum.  It is expected the successful applicant will develop their academic interest by undertaking research and gaining recognition through the Higher Education Academy pathway.

The Section of Medical Education at SMPH provides both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Following a recent expansion over 1500 undergraduate students’ study for the degree of MBChB and each year many intercalate with either BSc (Hons) in Medical Sciences Research or at Master’s level (many of the Masters courses within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health are available as intercalation options).  The Clinical Skills Centre and the Patients as Educators programme (recognised by the GMC as an area of notable practice) are based at the Medical School campus at the Northern General Hospital. At the heart of our programme of teaching and research is an emphasis on equitable, patient-centred, evidence-based patient care.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual who has a passion for delivering innovative simulation-based learning for our medical undergraduates.  You will also facilitate interprofessional learning, work closely with the clinical skills team as well as taking apart in the wider academic activities of the Medical School e.g., student feedback, assessment, pastoral support and staff development.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
