The Queen’s College seeks to appoint a seven-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in French for one year from 1st September 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing seven weighted hours a week of undergraduate tuition in French at the College. (Hours are averaged over the academic year).

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following papers: First-year Paper IIA (translation into English; taught in Trinity term); First-year literature tutorials on the modern authors of Paper III (short texts for commentary: Verlaine, Romances sans paroles and NDiaye, Papa doit manger) and Paper IV (narrative texts: Sand, Indiana and Condé, Traversée de la mangrove); Second-year translation classes (French to English; taught in all terms); FHS Paper VIII: Modern Literature (1715 to the present), for two centuries of the modern period.

Salary and Allowances

The postholder will receive a salary on the recommended scale for a seven-hour Stipendiary Lecturer, currently £17,784 to £19,814 per annum. They will also receive a housing allowance of £2,559.36 per annum. They will be entitled to lunch and dine in College free of charge during Weeks 0-9 (not including weekends and with other limited exceptions). The lecturer can also apply for an allowance for teaching materials of up to £1,344 per annum.
