Funding details: Fully-funded scholarship for 3 years covers all university tuition fees (at UK level) and an annual tax-free stipend. International students are also eligible to apply, but they will need to find other funding sources to cover the difference between the home and international tuition fees. Exceptional international candidates may be provided funding for this difference.

Eligibility:
The applicants should be highly motivated individuals with an excellent academic background. Applicants should have a very strong quantitative background and must hold a BSc in Finance, or Economics, or a related subject or an MSc in Finance, or Economics, or equivalent. The applicant should have a very strong quantitative background. If English isn't your first language, you'll need an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent with no individual element below 5.5.

Project Details:
We are seeking an outstanding student with an interest in Financial History, a background in Finance or Economics, (preferably with a completed or near-to-completion master’s degree), strong motivation, excellent command of English, and outstanding communication skills to embark on a PhD project. Furthermore, a solid quantitative background with essential econometric knowledge and programming skills is highly desirable.
Applicants must provide a detailed outline of their proposed topic with specifics on the methodological approach they will use.

Additional Supervisor/s: Professor Jonathan Fletcher
Further information: The student will benefit from supervision by Prof Graeme Acheson, who has published extensively in the area of Financial History. The second supervisor is Professor Jonathan Fletcher, who is an expert on asset pricing and other statistical methods used in finance research.
The student will have the advantage of participating in PGR activities in Accounting and Finance. Departmental activities include: subject workshops, seminar series, PGR forums with visiting academics. In addition to this, the student will be into the wider academic community in the area of economic and financial history. This will provide the student opportunities to present work at doctorial colloquiums and international conferences.
