The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor with expertise in policy, regulation, and/or law as it relates to the ethics of AI, data and algorithms.

CFI is an interdisciplinary research centre that has pioneered research into the ethics of AI since 2016, with a track record in attracting world-class researchers, exceptional students, and external funding. Its members are drawn from a wide range of disciplines, including law, social science, computer science, media studies and philosophy.

The purpose of this post is to:

  • contribute to CFI's expanding teaching programme;
  • conduct world-leading, impactful research in topics relevant to CFI's mission;
  • contribute to the development of CFI.

The post-holder will co-lead CFI's MPhil in the Ethics of AI, Data and Algorithms, now in its second year. They will be responsible for developing its curriculum, especially those aspects relating to AI law and policy, as well as delivering  teaching, and coordinating marking, supervising and other aspects of the course, together with our other Assistant Professor in the Ethics of AI, Data and Algorithms, the Postgraduate Administrator and CFI's Education Director. You will also contribute to CFI's other educational programmes, as required.

The post-holder will engage in research of international standing and significance on topics related to the ethics, policy and/or law of AI, data and algorithms. They will publish in leading academic journals, and ensure their research has impact through dissemination to and engagement with other stakeholders. They will pursue external funding to support a programme of research in their fields. The post holders will be expected also to contribute to the successful running and development of CFI in the short and long term.

The successful candidate will be based at CFI in Cambridge. Contingent on their specialist research areas and home disciplines, they may also have a reporting line to one of the University's other Faculties or Departments.
