Faculty / Directorate

DMU’s Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD) in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media has been undertaking interdisciplinary research for more than three decades to develop knowledge, skills and technology to support sustainable living in communities through low carbon energy systems and infrastructure as well as bringing solutions to the base of the pyramid population.

IESD’s research applies systems thinking and integrative methods to capture the complex interrelationships between all aspects of sustainability and its team of social scientists, engineers and building physicists has delivered ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’ research that has generated wider socio-economic and environmental impacts around the world to support sustainable development.

Role

The successful candidate will develop, test and evaluate collaborative governance approaches to the Net Zero climate change agenda in the Leicestershire area as part of a 21-month Innovate UK funded project led by Leicestershire County Council. By leading on delivery of the Governance project work package, you will involve a range of stakeholders from local government, businesses, public and voluntary sectors and local citizens in shaping decisions that affect them. The project is focussed upon governance which is inclusive, deliverable and effective for driving action on climate change and the development of sustainable local energy infrastructure.

Ideal Candidate

You will either have an academic/professional qualification in a relevant field (energy, climate, sustainability or public engagement) or professional experience in these areas. An ideal candidate will have both, along with prior experience of working collaboratively, including with local authorities. You have prior experience of delivering stakeholder engagement activity, of writing professional reports and/or academic articles, and of designing and conducting research in professional or academic settings. You have good knowledge of the implications of the climate change agenda for local/regional actions, a personal commitment to addressing climate change and sustainability and strong communication skills.
