This is an excellent opportunity to build a research career and be a part of a translational research programme that includes both scientists and clinicians. You would join a multidisciplinary research programme focused on the investigation of metabolic heterogeneity in upper gastrointestinal cancers to develop novel stratification and treatment tools.

The post holder will perform experiments required to meet grant funding milestones, provide support to the research group, Clinical Research Fellows and post-graduate students. In particular, the post holder will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of an explant tissue culture pipeline for the investigation of novel treatments for oesophageal cancer. The post holder will also be exposed to parallel workstreams involving spatial multiomics in collaboration with scientists across Imperial College and other universities.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Managing and organising key processes in support of ongoing experimental projects in translational cancer research.
  • Collection, processing and management of the biobank of human samples (tissues, blood and ascites samples) required for the group’s research projects, and gain knowledge of the required procedures and regulations required for this.
  • Extraction of different cell components from tumours/ascites for primary cell culturing, growth and maintenance of 3D models such as organoids or tumour explants
  • Managing and organising the general lab space, overseeing the preparation, storage, and inventory control of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Liaise with research staff and Masters / Doctoral students to support the group’s activities to ensure continuity in the laboratory work.
  • Contributing to research projects by performing experiments and providing technical support as required.

Full training will be provided in all proposed techniques. The priority will be histology, immunohistochemistry, digital pathology, and live tissue sectioning for ex vivo culture. There will also be an opportunity to learn spatial multi-omic techniques including mass spectrometry imaging and spatial transcriptomics.

Essential Requirements

Candidates with degree level education in molecular, cellular and/or cancer biology are invited to apply. This is a full-time post till 30th April 2025 with research commitments based at the Hammersmith Campus.

The College is supportive of flexible working.  The Department is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post, with suitably qualified people subject to operational arrangements. It should be noted that on occasion evening working will be required for collecting material to establish models.
