As Head of Quality and Standards you will provide leadership and management of the Quality and Standards Team to ensure that College examination papers and results are produced using robust and indisputable quality assurance measures, thereby protecting RCEM’s world-class reputation for academic excellence and the quality of the candidate experience.
The Head of Quality and Standards is an exciting and vital role for the College in which you will work closely and collaboratively with the Head of Examinations and Exams Operations Manager in order to ensure that key delivery milestones are achieved, and a high-quality product is delivered to our stakeholders.
You will also work with the Chief-Examiner to devise and lead the strategy to develop the test item and station banks across both theory and OSCE exams. Having responsibility for implementing and maintaining the College’s Examiner Incentivisation scheme, you will also provide reports to College Committees and stakeholders as required.
Keeping abreast of developments in the field of examinations and medical education, you will ensure the Director of Education, the College Dean and Lead Examiners are kept informed and advised as necessary.
You will also be an active member of the Exams Senior Management Team, contributing to business planning, business development and budget setting processes within the Exams Department.
Knowledge of medical training processes and an understanding of assessment theories are essential, whilst knowledge of UK Postgraduate Medical Education, project management experience and experience of working within a regulatory framework for assessment would be desirable.
With excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, you will be able to form good working relationships at all levels and have the ability to motivate others. The ability to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for change, as is the ability to make informed decisions and troubleshoot where necessary. Experience of influencing senior stakeholders would be advantageous.
The Royal College of Emergency Medicine was established to advance education and research in Emergency Medicine. The College is responsible for setting standards of training and administering examinations in Emergency Medicine for the award of Fellowship and Membership of the College as well as recommending trainees for CCT in Emergency Medicine. The College works to ensure high quality care by setting and monitoring standards of care and providing expert guidance and advice on policy to relevant bodies on matters relating to Emergency Medicine.
