Assistant Head of School – Finance and Accounting

There are two posts available that are full time, 35 hours per week and fixed term and rotating for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension for a further two years. Following completion of the term of office, postholders will revert to a permanent substantive academic post.

Westminster Business School is embarking on an exciting development journey and is seeking to recruit 34 academics. With 7000 students from all over the world we are one of the largest Business Schools in London, and have a global perspective. The School of Finance and Accounting is looking for looking for two experienced, strategic academic managers to assist in the leadership of the School, having recently appointed a new Head of School. The School is at an exciting stage in its development.  It has a growing portfolio of successful undergraduate and postgraduate courses, generates significant revenue for the University, and has ambitious plans to build further programmes in FinTech, sustainable finance and apprenticeships. It has exceptional links with industry and most of its programmes are endorsed or accredited by the accounting and finance professional bodies.

The successful applicants will play a key role in the School, working closely with the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team to shape and implement the School strategy, further grow student numbers, ensure the portfolio is innovative and stimulating and help to deliver an excellent student experience, exceptional student academic support and outstanding graduate outcomes. 

The role involves pro-active leadership within the School, building effective and cohesive teams, motivating colleagues and developing a positive and inclusive working environment. You will champion the University’s values and the EDI agenda and provide support to colleagues to ensure their wellbeing. As well as your management remit, you will maintain your own teaching, course leadership, scholarly activities and research profile in your area of subject expertise.  We are recruiting for an Assistant Head (Colleague Experience) who will assist with workload management to academic colleagues, liaison with timetabling and colleague induction and an Assistant Head (Student Experience) who will assist with curriculum development, quality reviews and assist with maintaining relationships with professional bodies, external examiners and other client groups external to the University. In your application please indicate which are you are applying for, noting that Assistant Heads will need to develop competence in both areas to deliver the school plan.  

This is an ideal post for an experienced academic who wants to develop their strategic role to the next level.  You will already be demonstrating skills and experiences across a range of academic processes. You will be familiar with all aspects of academic administration, particularly in respect of course and curriculum quality and development.  You will also have demonstrated your ability to manage people, resources, budgets and projects. 

The tenure of the Assistant Head of School role is for an initial period of three years, with scope to extend for a further two. Thereafter, you will either progress to further leadership roles or revert to your previous substantive role.
