METRO is a transformative health and wellbeing charity working across Youth, Mental Health, Sexual Health, HIV and Community in London and the South East. Our vision is that health and wellbeing is universal; everyone can access high-quality empowering health and wellbeing services; oppression is eliminated; and identities are celebrated. Our core values which underpin our vision are:

  • Empowerment
  • Equity
  • Transparency
  • Trust
  • Collaboration
  • Compassion

2024 is our 40th anniversary year, and we have grown hugely from our roots as the Greenwich Lesbian and Gay Centre. We changed our constitution in 2008 to support any person experiencing issues related to sexuality, gender, equality, diversity and identity, and we have now merged with six other charities and grown our impact and reach. We deliver a range of services across our five domains: HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Youth and Community. We also support other voluntary and community sector organisations via capacity building, governance and community voice work. We are a charity that champions equality and diversity, and it is of the utmost importance for all staff, volunteers and trustees to continue to be activists and advocates for a future which is inclusive, equitable and fair.

In a pivotal point in our history, METRO is looking to appoint a Director of EDI, People and Culture, a brand-new role. The new Director will provide strategic and operational direction across all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), people (HR), and culture. Working with the senior leadership and staff team, they will lead on our Action Plan on EDI and all EDI, people and culture initiatives for the whole workforce as we develop as an actively anti-racist charity. They will work with colleagues to provide support for EDI initiatives externally and support programmes that deliver for service users. The role also includes leading on our overall training and development and human resources function.

Strong candidates will be proactive and strategic thinkers with an agile and nuanced approach to change management particularly around equity and equality. They will have a deep understanding and awareness of issues around race and intersectional injustices, with proven experience of tackling complex challenges and implementing operational level interventions. The new Director should have significant experience of managing HR services, and a real alignment with METRO’s mission and purpose. The successful candidate will need to hit the ground running and operate within a fast-paced environment. They must have high emotional intelligence and follow a truly inclusive approach to leadership.

The closing date for all applications, which should be in the form of a CV and cover letter and addressed to metro@minervasearch.com is 18 March 2024.

Interviews are likely to take place in late April 2024.
