The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a national Research Centre, funded by the UK government through UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to bringing about transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. As Research Software Engineer - Imaging you will be responsible for the delivery of the imaging strategy for the imaging software elements of the Franklin. Primarily this will be in the area of X-ray and electron Microscopy analysis, including tomography segmentation and analysis. 

Role overview:

The Rosalind Franklin Institute is looking to recruit a Research Software Associate (RSA) as part of its Artificial Intelligence & Informatics theme, specifically to work on developing and implementing segmentation strategies. Working with the Image Analysis team, you will provide support for segmentation of a wide range of biological 3D data from X-ray imaging of zebra placentas to electron tomography of viruses inside of a cell. 

We are currently looking for a Research Software Associate – Imaging with excellent skills in the following areas:

  • Practical experience with image/volume processing using imaging techniques (e.g., tomographic reconstruction, segmentation or model fitting software) especially with respect to electron or X-ray tomography of biological samples.
  • Comfortable with basic command line, Jupyter notebook or script writing and usage. 

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Use automated segmentation approaches within the SuRVoS2 ecosystem for segmentation and processing of microscopy images/volumes.
  • Use visualisation tools within the Napari or other image rendering frameworks for manuscript and presentation preparation.
  • Attend scientific seminars and meetings to keep up to date with developments in software and methodology.
  • Disseminate results through participating in the manuscript preparation process and presenting at scientific meetings.
  • Contribute to the public engagement in the science programme of the Franklin, especially through the Science Scribbler program.
