We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the School of Cancer Sciences.

The successful candidate will make a leading contribution to the CRUK funded project “Leveraging microbial metabolism to improve clinical outcome in colorectal cancer”, working with Dr Johan Vande Voorde at the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre, Glasgow.

The Vande Voorde lab studies the intersection between gut microbiome metabolism and cancer. We have previously shown that bacteria present in the tumour microenvironment modulate the efficacy of cancer therapies through drug metabolism. The aim of this project is to understand how metabolites produced by gut microbiota affect colorectal cancer progression and therapy response. We will employ state-of-the-art metabolomics to analyze preclinical and clinical samples with a clear aim to develop new therapies for patients with poor prognosis. This is a highly collaborative project with ample opportunities for interaction with other national and international academic groups, industry and clinical partners.

Candidates should have extensive lab-based experience along with specialist theoretical and practical knowledge in a research related field (Cancer Metabolism | Microbiome). Experience with in vivo models of cancer is desirable but training will be provided. A proven track record of quality outputs is essential.
