Job Summary

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join an internationally renowned Neonatal Medicine Research Group based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital campus of Imperial College London. As Research Operations Manager you will support four senior clinical academics and manage a portfolio of research involving currently active grants totaling around £25M. Projects include the UK National Neonatal Research Database, a new International Neonatal Research Database, eNewborn, the Pregnancy and Prematurity theme of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, and studies funded by awards from the National Institute of Health Research, Medical Research Council and charities. The clinical research programme focuses upon improving the immediate and life-long health and wellbeing of sick and preterm babies. The Group comprises about 20 staff and students and works with a diverse range of collaborators and partners in the UK and internationally.

Duties and responsibilities

As part of a small professional services team within Neonatal Medicine, you will be responsible for supporting the efficient day-to-day operations of financial, regulatory, and administrative matters related to grants, provision of NNRD data requests to third parties, and research activities of the Group. These include preparing costs for grant applications and for users wishing to access the National Neonatal Research Database, managing research budgets, and liaising with collaborator university departments and funders. Administrative duties involve arranging National Neonatal Research Database Steering Board meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, responding to queries from collaborators and external researchers, communicating with contributors and assisting with reports and research submissions. You will be responsible for maintaining research project Master Files, ensuring regulatory approvals are up-to-date and that all members of the research group maintain all required research training.

Essential requirements

You will be educated to degree level, and ideally hold a qualification in management or business studies. You will have strong experience in managing and reporting on research grants and working in academic and/or NHS environments. You will be familiar with research regulation, patient confidentiality and research Good Clinical Practice. You will have excellent verbal and writing skills, a flexible work approach, and very strong ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure. You will be  highly computer literate and experienced in the use of standard office software.  You will enjoy being part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, take pride in your work and have clear personal career aspirations.

Imperial College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework. We may consider hybrid working for this post after the initial probationary period. Hybrid working is subject to review but currently involves 60% or more of time onsite with 40% the minimum time, subject to the requirements of the post.
