Job Summary

Are you a climate change researcher with a passion for climate innovation in the built environment? Do you want to be part of, and engage with, a network of academic researchers, innovators and industry professionals?

Then this is an opportunity for you!

Imperial College London has secured two years of London Shared Prosperity funding as part of the Better Futures 3.0 team led by the Greater London Authority, West London Business and Sustainable Ventures. The ICL Better Futures 3.0 Retrofit Accelerator creates a pathway to growth and commercial success for a diverse range of climate startups who are ready to implement and scale up their solutions to the climate crisis across the built environment sector, with a particular focus on decarbonising buildings. The Imperial team is led by Undaunted, Imperial’s climate innovation activity, run in partnership with the Royal Institution, and as part of the Grantham Institute.

We are looking for a researcher with experience of climate solutions and knowledge of the built environment to work as our research lead. You will take the lead on designing and delivering research support for over 20 built environment start-ups and scale ups in the climate solutions space, engaging with SME’s and seasoned industry professionals.

Duties and responsibilities

You will develop and implement a detailed research plan to support the delivery of the cohort-based building sector intervention programme described above. This research plan will be developed taking on board the input of the Director of Undaunted and the SPF Innovation Lead, to align with funding objectives and deliverables.

Essential requirements

Our ideal candidate will have a degree (or equivalent) in climate science, built environment sustainability or other related field, demonstrable experience of managing and delivering research projects, experience of research on climate solutions (mitigation and adaptation), experience of monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes, knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions in the context of the built environment sector.

You will be a critical thinker with good problem-solving skills and will have excellent teamwork skills with the ability to engage productively across a range of people and organisation types.
