Faculty of Health

You will be part of an innovative 3-year project jointly funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Autistica and will coordinate project activity. The role will involve a high degree of autonomous work, with the potential to help shape the project in creative and innovative ways. 

The main aim of the project is to help more autistic people get a job in the UK. We will invite autistic people co-design scenarios and then to use Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to practice having job interviews and experience the first days at a new job. This will help them to know what to expect, be less anxious and make it easier obtaining and retaining employment. 

Key experience: 

  • Experience of research in a related field (E)
  • Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines (E)
  • Experience of undertaking applied qualitative and / or quantitative research projects (E)
  • Experience of drafting proposals and applications to external bodies (D)
  • A record of individual or contributions to research publications (D)
  • Knowledge of research methods and research design (D)
  • Specialist knowledge of autism, health technologies, or similar (D) 

Some of the accountabilities include: 

  • Support the development of research objectives in conjunction with the project’s Principal Investigator
  • Plan and manage own research activity in conjunction with more senior colleagues and within the framework of the agreed programme
  • Network with a range of individuals and organisations internally and externally for effective data collection and to develop the potential for future collaboration.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant research meetings.
  • Contribute to the production of project report(s) and disseminate the results through papers, publications and conference presentations. 

This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Adult's Barred List check.

This is a part-time position working 18.5 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 25 months due to funding.
