Research Assistant

University of Cambridge - C.I.M.R. Clinical Neurosciences

Location: Oxford
Salary: £29,605 to £33,966 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 4th March 2024
Closes: 2nd April 2024
Job Ref: SD40767

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join the Nixon-Abell laboratory at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. Our work sits at the interface between cell biology and molecular neuroscience.  We employ integrated experimental approaches to understand organelle interactions and dynamics in neurons, and how they are corrupted in neurodegenerative diseases.

The successful candidate will work closely with several post-doctoral researchers to conduct and coordinate experiments while performing key duties to support the laboratory (iPSC tissue culture, molecular biology and laboratory management). As this position is a longer-term placement, the successful applicant will also have the exciting opportunity to work on their own dedicated research project, with the goal of producing rigorous and impactful research and publications. The candidate will form part of a vibrant and interdisciplinary team and receive expert training and guidance to develop skills in stem cell culture, neuronal differentiation, molecular biology, CRISPR engineering, and advanced microscopy.

All applicants must hold at minimum a BSc in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience or a related discipline and have prior experience working in a lab environment. Candidates with an MSc are preferable, although not required. Excellent record keeping, organisational skills, and communication ability are essential.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for 2 years in the first instance, but with the potential for extension. This position is graded on the University's Grade 5 scale, for which the salary range is £29,605 - £33,966 per annum. The starting salary offered will be based on qualification and relevant skills acquired and will be determined by the funding available.
