About the role:
Do you want to support the next generation of engineers and contribute to world class research? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated technical specialist to join our team. Our technical team plays an essential role in enriching the student experience.
You will work in our student workshop teaching and supervising our undergraduate students. You will provide technical support for both teaching and research activities. You could be making parts for a student racing car one day or working with researchers to build an artificial knee the next.
You’ll use conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes, etc) as well as CNC machines for more complex machining requirements. You will contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates in the use of machine/hand tools and during final year individual research projects. You’ll also provide skills in welding/fabrication in steel, stainless steel and aluminium together with bench fitting and assembly.
You will also be required to supervise student activities in the Workshop and carry out inductions to ensure safe working at all times.
In addition, you will provide a training programme for apprentice technicians, overseeing their development by setting their workload and training schedule, as well as providing support and general guidance, during their studies.
The role is a full time (36.5 hours) position, but we can consider flexible working.
