We are seeking a Specialist Technician in Electronics and Software to join the Faculty of Engineering and Design’s Technical Services team.

You will work as part of a multi-skilled team providing technical guidance and support in the design, development of experimental and prototype systems for the teaching and research activities across the Faculty.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing advice and guidance to academic and research staff across Mechanical Engineering on specification, design and implementation of systems
  • Ensuring effective service and identifying ways to improve
  • Design and implementation of protocols and techniques
  • Recommending suitable equipment for research projects
  • Providing specialist software support to the department

You may also be involved in the supervision of undergraduate students during laboratory sessions and project activities.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will be skilled in the commissioning of data acquisition (DAQ) and control systems, have general programming and IT systems experience, and be able to maintain computer based systems that support the University’s research and teaching interests.

You will also have experience of:

  • Being responsible for safe working practices and their continuous improvement
  • Contributing to the design, development and implementation of solutions
  • Examining, understanding and assessing relevant scientific and technological information
  • Maintaining effective working relationships and communicating effectively with a broad range of audiences
