An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Core Facilities Team at Manchester Metropolitan University as an XRD and XRF Specialist.

This post offers the opportunity to be part of our vibrant technical community, developing its services to meet the needs of a university of the future. Our diverse team of technicians ensure that the University functions efficiently and delivers the levels of student experience both our undergraduates and postgraduates deserve and expect of us. Working in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios and IT facilities, our technical professionals play a key role in supporting, guiding, and advising across our University, from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy.

The Role: 

  • Working in the analytical core facility supporting education and funded research alongside commercial activities.
  • Responsible for the delivery and future direction of XRD and XRF techniques.

Duties will include;

  • Developing partnerships with external agencies and engaging in collaborative projects.
  • To identify and assess the usefulness and to lead the introduction of new techniques.
  • Method development, troubleshooting, maintenance, QC, health and safety and administration will also feature in this role. 

About You: 

As a technician specialist, the successful candidate will be expected to have experience in XRD and XRF, different technologies in previous teaching and learning environments and specialist knowledge of the method development, analysis and maintenance.

You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your initiative. You will have a proactive mindset and have exceptional problem solving skills. You will be expected to participate in external networks and user groups, attend relevant events to keep up to date with the latest developments and techniques and share information with colleagues. Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality service will also be essential in succeeding in this post.
