This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months 

The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences. 

LSE’s Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users. 

The Integration Specialist (developer) will take a lead on the analysis, design, technical development, and deployment of data and application integration processes for services provided to the LSE by the Data  and Technology Services division. Working as part of the Data and Development team and the wider Solutions and  Partnering Group, the role will be involved across all aspects of service delivery including project work, implementation and continuous service improvement.

This role will be involved heavily in guiding design and development on the new integrations service platform, powered by Mulesoft, so it is essential that they possess the necessary skills and knowledge in that particular area. 

Some of the key responsibilities are:

  • Design and develop integration packages, ETL processes, data preparation workflows, and related technical solutions, to meet agreed requirements and using current tools, e.g. Oracle PL/SQL, Microsoft SSIS, but also importantly through developing knowledge of tools new to LSE (Salesforce, Mulesoft etc.) This will involve an environment comprising multiple and varied database technologies, including Cloud
  • Liaise with analysts, technical leads, architects and system owners where required to define good solution design and implementation patterns.
  • Research and advise the Head of Data and Development on new or existing products within the commercial marketplace to meet identified needs, and raise awareness of new and emerging technical and operational standards that have relevance to 

Candidates should have:

  • Experience of working with multiple databases (including Oracle and/or SQL Server) in a complex environment
  • Experience of the end to end development lifecycle on the Mulesoft Anypoint platform, including use and configuration of Design Centre, Exchange, Studio, API manager and Runtime manager.
  • Experience in developing flows in Anypoint Studio to support different use cases, including batch based scheduled processing and asynchronous message queuing.
  • Experience of developing RESTful APIs using appropriate frameworks and language such as working with XML, XSLT, and XSD.
  • Understanding of the importance of effective testing in the development process, preferably with demonstrate experience of writing and running tests.
  • An understanding of good source code control, versioning, branching and deployment strategies, and be able to effectively use tools such as GitLab or GitHub.
