About us
The molecular nociception group is a world leading research team focussing on peripheral pain mechanisms and the development of new analgesic strategies. We have recently been fortunate to obtain funding from CRUK to try to understand more about bone cancer pain and its treatment.
About the role
The post involves mouse behavioural studies and the application of genetic strategies to define new targets, as well as the testing of known analgesic strategies to attenuate bone cancer pain. The researcher will work collaboratively, exploiting transgenic mouse lines and a variety of experimental interventions to define the best way to block bone cancer pain.
About you
The successful applicant should have a PhD in neuroscience, ideally with some background in the pain field. This project combines molecular genetics, a lot of mouse behavioural studies and the application of a number of new approaches to treating pain that we hope to translate rapidly into human proof of concept studies. The applicant should have expertise in mouse genetics and mouse behaviour studies. Ideally, some knowledge of GCaMP imaging and recombinant DNA work would be valuable.
