About the Role

Following a successful research grant awarded by Barts Charity to investigate a novel genetic cause of childhood growth failure, applications are invited for a post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant within the William Harvey Research Institute at Bart’s and The London Medical School, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The position is within the Centre for Endocrinology, based at the Charterhouse Square Campus of QMUL in the heart of the City of London.

About You

The post holder will be embedded in a program of research with the aim of improving the recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of children with growth disorders. The main duty of this post is to lead a project investigating a novel genetic cause of growth failure identified by our group. This includes functional validation of genetic variants using cutting edge molecular biology techniques and in vitro models of disease. Some bioinformatic knowledge would be beneficial. The post-holder will be encouraged to formulate their own scientific questions arising from the data generated within this project and will work with clinician-scientists, bioinformaticians, geneticists and molecular scientists and cell biologists.

About the Institute

The project will be undertaken in the Centre for Endocrinology within the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI). The WHRI is within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London and one of the largest multidisciplinary pharmacological institutes in Europe with over 530 clinicians and scientists from 45 countries. The WHRI conducts innovative, world-leading research in the fields of cardiovascular, endocrine and inflammation science. Our innovative research environment and close collaboration with Barts Health NHS Trust and healthcare partners across East London. The Centre for Endocrinology is internationally recognised for genetic discovery and functional annotation in a range of endocrine disorders. A unique feature of endocrinology research at the WHRI is the focus on life-course consequences of endocrine and metabolic diseases from conception to old-age and their biological bases. Professor Storr’s group have extensive experience in the clinical assessment, genetic analysis and molecular characterisation of childhood growth disorders.
