About us

The Faculty of Laws has a strong commitment to social justice education, embodied in our Centre for Access to Justice (CAJ) which was founded in 2013. The central mission of CAJ is to promote access to justice through research-led education, community activities and evidence-based policy advice. CAJ runs clinical legal education (CLE) programmes and pro bono activities with a social welfare or social justice focus.

About the role

CAJ’s largest project is our award-winning UCL Integrated Legal Advice Clinic (iLAC) which is committed to the provision of quality, independent advice for low income and vulnerable members of the community. Through the provision of advice and casework, UCL iLAC has established a dataset of routine client and casework data which offers rich detail on client demographic data, legal problem types, casework provision and case outcomes. The post holder will work on research projects which aim to use UCL iLAC data and other relevant sources to provide insight into legal needs and the impact of legal advice. The post holder will also increase the CAJ’s research capacity and support opportunities for impact and engagement relating to CAJ research. The post holder will have a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. An understanding of social welfare law and/or the justice system is an advantage but those with strong research skills from other fields will be considered.

Interviews will be on Wednesday 24th April 2024.

For further details about the application process please contact . If you wish to have an informal discussion about the role, please contact Shiva Riahi via s.riahi@ucl.ac.uk.
