Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Discovery of New Solid Electrolytes - Grade 7

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the synthesis of new inorganic solid electrolyte materials. The successful candidate will work on materials inspired by our recent publication (Science 2024) on new routes to superionic lithium transport, using the full range of modern digital tools to accelerate their experimental discovery work.

Expertise in the discovery of new inorganic materials and their structure determination is essential, and expertise in ion transport in solids is desirable. We welcome applications from ambitious researchers with the skills to contribute to the project goal. The project environment will facilitate the development of new skills and the demonstration of creativity and leadership.

This position will form part of the interdisciplinary team in the EPSRC Programme Grant “Digital Navigation of Chemical Space for Function”. This team is developing a new approach to materials design and discovery that combines experiment with computation, exploiting both machine learning and symbolic AI. The discovery of new solid electrolytes is a core project target.

You will have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science.

The post is available from 1^st May 2024 until 30^th November 2026.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
