We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Technical Specialist to join our dynamic technical operations team. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the RAICo Technical Specialist (Robotics) will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services.

Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join The University of Manchester’s team at RAICo1 lab in Whitehaven UK. RAICo1 is a state-of-the-art robotics lab located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, in West Cumbria. The University of Manchester Robotics for Extreme Environments Group is at the forefront of nuclear field robotics and has deployed many robots into nuclear facilities and other extreme environments in the UK and internationally. Your key role within the team will be to develop, maintain, and test the code base for our fleet of mobile robots.

You will have (or expect to shortly receive) a PhD in electronic & electrical engineering, mechatronic engineering or a related discipline or have equivalent experience. In addition, you will have practical experience of developing robotic systems and system integration (mechanical, electrical and software integration). Demonstrable experience of using and maintaining basic workshop equipment is required. You will also have excellent analytical and IT skills e.g. MATLAB and experience of using LINUX. You must be capable of independently completing tasks to a high standard and communicating well with team members and industrial partners.
