The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 570 years, and today we are one of the world's top 100 universities. We are delighted to have recently been awarded Scottish University of the Year by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024.
In the University, Data Science is being deployed in areas from Cancer Sciences to Digital Humanities. We are at the forefront of areas such as information retrieval, machine learning, data systems, bias, “missingness” and responsible AI. Data Science underpins the University’s ambition to address important challenges through collaborative efforts and it enables us to be more creative in our research.
In recognition of its importance, a new Centre for Data Science and AI has been established, and we are looking for a Centre Manager to join us to provide leadership and support for the day-to-day management of the Centre.
About the role
As a Centre Manager, you will work alongside the Centre Management Team (Centre Director and Programme Directors), as well as colleagues in Research Support across the University, managing financial, organisational and procedural elements to support the Centre for Data Science and AI. You will have a strategic responsibility to deliver high-quality and impact activities of the Centre’s programmes including research strategy, stakeholders' development, seminars and training programmes, budget management, fund raising and reporting.
You will be responsible for developing the Centre's engagement strategy, creating and maintaining excellent working relationships with external partner organisations and funding bodies.
You will have line management responsibility for a Centre Administrator and Knowledge Coordinator, posts which we are currently recruiting to.
You will join a team of research professionals in the Research Services Directorate. Our team is creative and collaborative, and we are committed to working together and with colleagues across the university and externally to ensure a positive environment for people, and research endeavours, to thrive. We are also passionate about our profession and developing research professional staff careers.
About you
With previous experience of working in a management team, managing a diverse portfolio with significant evidence of success, you will also have experience of managing cross-organisational teams, including individuals from external bodies. You will have strong project management skills, developing and managing complex projects with national or international network initiatives, often with multiple conflicting deadlines.
Engagement and collaboration are key features of this role, therefore excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to act in a consultative manner, are essential.
The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of AI and Data Science ecosystem and the UK funding landscape, as well as a knowledge of key stakeholders and organisations within AI.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), and is fixed term for 3 years.
Closing Date: Thursday 4th April 2024
As a valued member of our team, you can expect:
We endorse the principles of Athena Swan and hold bronze, silver and gold awards across the University.
