We are recruiting a Socially Responsible Engagement Manager to lead the College’s Socially Responsible Engagement framework, which governs our academic engagements with fossil fuel companies.

You will work closely with the Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise), senior academics and our industrial partners to ensure the successful co-ordination, implementation, and communication of the College’s Socially Responsible Engagement Policy. Your work will help determine which fossil fuel companies we continue to collaborate with and the terms of those collaborations, enabling Imperial to deploy its world-leading expertise in ways that most effectively support decarbonisation. You will have key responsibilities for Governance and Project Management, Fossil Fuel Company (FCC) Monitoring Process and Engagement Process.

You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, and will therefore need excellent organisational and communication skills, coupled with the ability to develop strong and productive working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities

Governance and Project Management

  • Manage the implementation of the SRI Engagement Monitoring Process under the direction of the SRI Engagement Monitoring Panel, ensuring activities are implemented effectively and on time
  • Provide reports on progress of the Engagement Monitoring Process, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Organise annual meetings of the SRI Engagement Monitoring Panel to review the nature of on-going relationships with FFCs and progress with engagement; preparing agendas, papers, reports and minutes, and preparing and implementing resulting action plans.

FFC Monitoring Process

  • Operate ImperialTPI, gathering data from a range of sources (both statistical and narrative, e.g. annual reports) to assess the carbon performance of our current and potential Fossil Fuel Company partners.
  • Continuously review ImperialTPI to ensure that it remains current as both the policy environment and the availability of data evolve.

FFC Engagement Process

  • Maintaining records of the College’s existing College partnerships (and individual relationship contacts) and programme of engagement meetings with FFCs.
  • Selecting FFC(s) for the initial engagement pilot (2023) and devise the implementation plan for future (2024-onwards) expanded engagement.
  • Liaising with the SRI Engagement Monitoring Panel and key stakeholders in selected FFC(s) to organise engagement process and meetings.

Communications

  • Work with the Communications Team to ensure that progress and decisions on SRI Engagement Monitoring process are clearly communicated to both external and internal stakeholders, and integrated with wider SRI Policy communications
  • Work with the Communications Team to drive engagement (e.g. through Town Hall meetings) with the staff and student community in College around the Socially Responsible Engagement Process.

Essential requirements

  • Experience as a senior professional administrator, Project Manager, Research Engagement ManaExperience as a senior professional administrator, Project Manager, Research Engagement Manager, Monitoring/Evaluation/Performance Manager, or similar, ideally gained in Higher Education, Research, or Corporate sector.
  • Experience of participating effectively at senior-level decision-making committees and of interacting, communicating and consulting effectively with a wide range of people and across different backgrounds, cultures and experiences
  • Experience of internal and external stakeholder management
  • Experience of managing high-level and complex projects or programmes with multiple workstreams and priorities
  • Experience of gathering, monitoring and analysing complex data and information to inform decision-making
  • Experience of servicing committees, boards or governance mechanisms, coordinating meetings, preparing reports and implementing and monitoring action plan
  • Experience of working in a sustainability-related area or industry
  • Knowledge of performance analysis and/or monitoring approaches and metrics
