This is a vital appointment for our inclusive, influential, award-winning, Ofsted ‘Good’ Sixth Form. Reporting directly to the Vice Principal Curriculum, the role will be to lead The Sixth Form Bolton’s full Science provision - A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics and the BTEC Certificate and Extended Diploma in Applied Science, as we move into the final phase of our journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

We are looking for a talented, and passionate scientist (your own teaching can be in any of the listed areas - we have no preference), who will help develop the College further towards our goal of becoming a regional centre of excellence for the sciences, strengthening especially our provision and ensuring further consistency through innovative curriculum development, cutting-edge teaching and learning methods, the use of data to inform practice and encouraging a collegiate and stimulating environment for students and staff alike.

For the aspiring scientist, The Sixth Form Bolton offers a stimulating mix of A levels and BTEC Science courses. Science is a large department within the College - there are 260 students studying A level Biology and 255 studying A level Chemistry.  There is a significant but smaller number (83) studying A level Physics. Our BTEC Science provision is very successful, with 243 students studying for either the Extended Diploma or Certificate in Science.

The Science Department enjoys relatively new and very well-equipped laboratories, a prep room, and a dedicated staff room for the department, within our superb, modern, town-centre located, Sixth Form in Bolton’s bustling town centre, and within travelling distance from Manchester, Bury, Tameside, Rochdale, Stockport, and the towns of Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, South Yorkshire, and North-West Derbyshire, we are the only specialist Sixth Form in the town and the largest provider of A Level studies in the borough, with a higher-than-average progression to Higher Education.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and committed individual to lead a professional and dedicated team in a successful, progressive, friendly, and forward-looking Sixth Form. We know that our Science results could be exceptional with the right drive and inspirational leadership. We are fast building a reputation for offering excellent career development opportunities and we have a strong focus on the wellbeing of staff and students alike.

The post would be ideal for anyone with successful A Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics experience (in Sixth Form College, GFE College, or 11-18 schools - with experience of KS5 teaching), ambition and drive, and who sees a directorate or faculty leadership position as the next step in their career. BTEC experience would be useful but is not essential.

We offer:

  • Full support from a dedicated, inspirational, and approachable leadership team who care about the wellbeing of staff
  • A collegiate approach to best practice, with a consultative yet inclusive style
  • The opportunity to join a modern, dynamic, and successful Ofsted Grade ‘2’ College
  • Dedicated career development and advice and a real platform towards further career success.

For a full pack including application forms please visit www.boltonscience.info or e-mail our advisers ASDTi on gm@asdti.com or telephone ASDTi on 07736 775776.

Closing date for applications: 8th April 2024 at 10am.

Shortlisting will take place on 22nd of April 2024.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 30th April 2024.
