The Faculty of Science and Engineering wish to appoint a support technician to provide teaching and research support for the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics.

You will work as part of a team under the direction of the School Technical Manager and deliver support for Electronics and Robotics laboratory based practical classes by administrating equipment from the Smeaton Store (the School’s student facing Electronics and Robotics store) and contribute to their design and development by creating kits for loans.

This position is a job-sharing role (2 days a week) responsible for ongoing development of the various IT based systems used within the School to manage equipment loans, lab access and equipment maintenance.

You will be expected to have a HNC, NVQ/BTEC level 3/4 or equivalent in a relevant subject area or a period of relevant work experience. Must have the ability to engage with students and colleagues in a courteous and constructive manner, prioritise and work to deadlines with good oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will be computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages.

Basic electronic component identification is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided for the right candidate.

You must be able to work within a team covering many subject areas and to be proactive in covering all aspect of activities in a professional manner.

The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is the home of our Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Electronic, and Robotics Engineering subject disciplines, which together with Civil and Coastal Engineering, Navigation, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, provides a vibrant inter-disciplinary and collaborative environment, dedicated towards producing pioneering research but also graduates, with the necessary applied knowledge and skills to meet the demands of employers today and tomorrow.

This is a part-time, job-share position working 14.8 hours per week on a permanent basis.
