Role Description

The University of York is seeking a Research Fellow to join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service (RSS) Hub hosted by the University of York, in partnership with the Universities of Sheffield and Leeds. The NIHR RSS provides seamless access to support, advice, research design and collaboration from pre-application to post-application for researchers working across the remit of NIHR in England, through eight Hubs who come together as the National Collaborative.

Role

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to play a key role in the work of the NIHR RSS National Collaborative, through a programme of research on horizon scanning to anticipate methodological and wider developments in the research landscape. The National Collaborative will use the horizon scanning outputs to inform the development of high-quality methods resources, training and capacity building for RSS staff, as well as provide guidance and intelligence across our wider networks.

You will join a small team of information specialists, data scientists, horizon-scanning and evidence synthesis researchers based across the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York and the NIHR Innovation Observatory at Newcastle University. You will be based at York Trials Unit, within the RSS Hub hosted by the University of York.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • PhD in an area relevant to health research or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies including systematic reviews, evidence synthesis and data science
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NIHR, other relevant research funding streams and UK research landscape
  • Experience in synthesising evidence within systematic reviews and more broadly
  • Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds, with collaborators if required
  • Proven ability to attract and obtain external research funding
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for a small research project or identified parts of a large project
  • Ability to persuade and influence project stakeholders
