Assistant Director of Admissions

We are actively seeking a highly motivated and innovative Assistant Director of Admissions to join the dynamic team at Birmingham City University. This is a chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of student admissions at one of the fastest-growing universities.

As the Assistant Director of Admissions, you’ll spearhead a team managing a substantial volume of applications and inquiries from prospective students. Your strategic vision and leadership prowess will be pivotal in transforming interest into enrolments, actively contributing to the university’s overall growth.

The Role

In this role, you will oversee admissions across undergraduate and postgraduate markets, managing various modes of study and handling peaks in demand. Your responsibilities will include leading and developing the enquiries team, aligning their insights with the marketing and communications department for continuous improvement in application and conversion activities. Additionally, you will drive the development and implementation of the University’s offer-making strategy and play a key role in the delivery of confirmation and clearing each year.

Your Mission

As the successful candidate, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of admissions, managing peaks in demand. You will lead continuous improvement in application and conversion activity, and develop and maintain crucial data related to the student journey for use in improving customer service. You will also establish a customer service culture, seeking feedback from academics, students, and stakeholders, and adjusting services to reflect customer needs and requirements.

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of experience and skills essential for this role, including a demonstrable and deep understanding of admissions and student recruitment within the Higher Education sector. With evidence of operating effectively at the senior management level, they should possess the ability to lead a high-performing team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, are crucial, showcasing a proven ability to engage with and influence senior colleagues. Additionally, resilience and the ability to remain calm, professional, and focused at all times are key attributes sought in the ideal candidate.
