Job Summary

We invite applications for an enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our Imperial College Cancer Imaging Centre to support laboratory research studies in molecular imaging and therapy.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of chemists and biologists to develop new molecular imaging methodology mainly for positron emission tomography, together development of molecular therapeutics inspired by such imaging agents.

The post is funded by local Imperial College and Industry Funds, and you will work under the supervision of Centre Director, Prof Eric Aboagye. Training will be provided when required.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be involved in the day-to-day smooth running and maintenance of the laboratory, carry out research underpinning imaging and molecular radiotherapy, help researchers undertake research, maintain accurate records and submit reports for publication. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for undertaking research investigating imaging agents and molecular radiotherapy.
  • To support fluorescence and radiolabelled compound uptake studies, metabolite analysis and imaging/therapy studies
  • To support biological characterisation of cell lines and probes
  • To conduct and plan own scientific work with appropriate supervision.
  • To conduct data analysis
  • To always ensure the validity and reliability of data
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To write reports for submission to research sponsors
  • To promote the reputation of the Group, the Department,
  • and the College
  • To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary
  • Complying with Health & Safety procedures affecting self and others, ensuring good laboratory practice in work areas.

Essential requirements

You will have a MSc or equivalent degree in Cancer Biology and have some experience undertaking cell based assays in a cancer laboratory environment, including cell culture, western blot, PCR, transfections, fluorescence labelling and FACS. You would preferably have familiarity with radiotracer experiments. You will have excellent organisation and laboratory skills, with meticulous record keeping and attention to detail. The ability to work as part of a team and flexibly are essential.
