Registry’s main role is to act as the definitive record keeper of students and of programmes and modules on behalf of the University. Its work underpins a student's academic career from post-registration through to graduation and supports academic and administrative staff in a number of areas including academic and student related Regulations and Codes of Practice and institutional and national quality matters.

Role Summary

Student Administration within Registry is primarily responsible for the progression of students from Registration to Graduation, and the maintenance of their associated student records. This will include all of our compliance obligations and managing the process involved in students making this journey.

This is a key role in the Student Administration section in Registry. The post holder will provide policy and operational management within Registry and across Colleges.

Main Duties

  • Undertaking the full range of management responsibilities including the day-to-day line management of designated team members, staff recruitment, induction, staff development, taking responsibility for the quality and professionalism of the team’s work, managing workloads and undertaking performance management where required. 
  • As a member of the senior management team, provide leadership and operational management support for the team and wider sub-division. This would include contributing to the development and implementation of strategic goals and objectives of the team, ensuring that staff are fully trained and confident in all aspects of their roles, promoting the development of the team and individuals through Team Meetings, Away Days, and encouraging a culture of effective team working, allowing opportunities for staff to provide feedback and make suggestions on improvements to service.
  • Taking a lead role in managing key operational processes in the academic cycle, for example examination, progression and award processing, degree congregation activity, document production and start of session activity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications) plus relevant practical experience - where no equivalent qualification is held significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a series of progressively more demanding roles will be required.
  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to produce and analyse information and data.
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly. 
  • Substantial experience as manager or senior administrator in a Higher Education registry/student services role, with the ability to lead and motivate staff.
