We wish to appoint a Research Assistant to work on a project funded by the mental health charity MQ for a short period from end of May 2024 to end of July 2024 (possibly extended to end of August ¿ to be discussed). The project combines experimental and computational work as described below, with the aim to uncover the effects of Rett Syndrome on neuronal computations.
The appointee will work with Prof Petra Vertes and collaborators, including Dr Susanna Mierau (Harvard Medical School) and Andras Lakatos (University of Cambridge).
The project will extend existing work on electrophysiological recordings of neuronal activity in responses to stimulation in human brain organoids derived from Rett Syndrome patients (as well as isogenic controls). It will involve both performing recordings as well as using and writing computational scripts for data analysis.
Given the short duration of the role, we are looking for applicants with existing expertise in electrophysiological recording and in computational data analysis in Python. We are also looking for individuals with excellent communications skills and proven capacity to collaborate across disciplines. Experience working with human brain organoids is advantageous.
Candidates should have a Degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent in a relevant field of study.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Prof Petra Vertes, Email: pv226@cam.ac.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2024 in the first instance.
