Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Department of Management and International Business wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to play a key role in the teaching and research of Governance, Management and Organisations. We are interested in appointing a management/ organisation studies scholar with interest and expertise in some or all of the following: leadership in governance; contemporary governance trends and contexts; public sector, community, and iwi governance; and Board dynamics, processes and strategies.

This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent opportunity.

Remuneration starts at $120,752 up to the Associate Professor level, with salary dependent on appointment.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

Teaching – primary teaching is located within the Department of Management and International Business and the Graduate School of Management and could include MBA, specialised governance postgraduate courses and Executive and Professional Development. Please note that the successful candidate for this position will be required to co-ordinate a new governance and leadership programme for executives.

Supervision – Research informed supervision of dissertation and research students.

Research – A strong individual research programme in their area of expertise and ability to collaborate across inter- and trans- disciplinary research projects and funding proposals. Qualitative and/ or critical research approaches particularly of interest. Will be part of the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance hosted by the Department of Management and International Business and orientated at cutting edge research into both leadership and governance as well as research that integrates the two.

Our ideal candidate would preferably have a PhD in a management-related field, a publishing record that includes general organisation field journals such as Organisation Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Academy of Management Review/ Journal and Human Relations (in addition to more specialised governance journals), a record of attendance at general management and organisational conferences (such as Academy of Management, EGOS, SCOS or similar) and have a proven teaching record of teaching post-experience students.

The Department of Management and International Business is one of seven departments within the UABS. The department is organised into five disciplinary areas: Organisation Studies, Organisation Behaviour and Human Resource Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation and Strategy. The disciplines are taught across the programmes in the UABS, including undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research programmes, and PhD. Members of the Department are highly-qualified and experienced academics who have made important contributions to the above disciplines. A number of institutes and centres involve members of this department including the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance, the Centre for Inclusive Capitalism, the Centre for Research on Modern Slavery, the Centre for Enterprising Women and the Dame Mira Szazy Centre.

Our ideal candidate would preferably have:

  • A PhD in a Management related field
  • A publishing record that includes general organisation field journals such as, Organisation Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Academy of Management Review/ Journal and Human Relations (in addition to more specialised governance journals)
  • A record of participating in general management and organisational conferences, such as Academy of Management, EGOS, SCOS or similar
  • A track record of applying for external funding grants
  • A proven teaching record of teaching post-experience students.
  • You will be committed to undertaking high-quality research and researched-informed teaching.
