Research Technician in Animal Embryology

About the Role

Applications are invited for a research technician position in the laboratory of Dr Chema Martin in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. Our group applies developmental, genomic, and cellular biological techniques to understand the molecular mechanisms controlling animal embryogenesis and evolution. Your main responsibilities will be (1) leading animal care efforts and contributing to sample collections of in-house cultured and field-collected annelid worms; (2) cloning and conducting gene expression analyses with cutting-edge techniques (e.g., in situ HCR); (3) obtaining high-quality images with DIC, confocal and super-resolution microscopy.

Further, you will train lab colleagues and students and support their experimental work with gene expression analyses, basic molecular biology approaches and imaging. If desired and possible, there will be freedom to explore independent projects.

About You

You should have a relevant BSc/BA degree (MSc desirable), some experience with molecular biology and embryology laboratory techniques (e.g. gene cloning and purification, in situ hybridisation or immunohistochemistry) and an interest in animal development and evolution. You should be able to plan experiments independently, follow research protocols, and maintain good records. You should be well-organised and have a proactive, self-motivated attitude. Importantly, you should be keen to support other team members.

You will be part of a collaborative, international team of research staff and students and will be able to develop new skills and mentor other lab members.
